Swati Bhargava, co-founder of CashKaro and EarnKaro, is recognized today as one of India’s top entrepreneurs in the affiliate marketing industry. Hailing from the small town of Ambala, she carved a niche in the Indian startup ecosystem after gaining global education exposure. Her childhood in Ambala instilled values of hard work, discipline, and financial independence.

A scholarship to study at the London School of Economics (LSE) changed the course of her life, helping her understand global business models and develop a problem-solving mindset. In the financial year 2024-25, CashKaro recorded a GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) of over Rs 4,000 crore and returned more than Rs 1,000 crore as cashback to its customers.

CashKaro: The Journey Begins in 2013

Swati and her husband Rohan launched CashKaro in 2013, at a time when India’s startup ecosystem was still in its early stages. They faced challenges like limited funding, low trust in new business models, and the need to educate customers. The idea for cashback came from Swati’s personal experience booking honeymoon tickets in the UK and saving money. She wondered why India couldn’t have a platform that rewarded customers with cashback on online purchases.

With e-commerce growing rapidly in India, customer acquisition costs (CAC) were rising for brands. Swati saw this as an opportunity. CashKaro adopted a performance-based marketing model, where brands pay commission only on actual sales.

Partnerships with Major E-Commerce Brands

CashKaro has partnered with over 1,000 brands, including Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra. Some marketplaces achieved 30-40x ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) through these partnerships.

Launched in 2019, EarnKaro allows over 4 million users, including students, influencers, and content creators, to earn money by leveraging their networks.

How the Cashback Model Works

When a customer purchases CashKaro, brands pay a commission to the platform. A portion of this commission is returned to the customer as cashback, while the rest forms the company’s revenue. This ensures that brands get real buyers and customers enjoy savings.

Swati also highlights the “double dipping” technique, where users can combine bank offers, wallet discounts, and CashKaro cashback for maximum savings. Additionally, users can earn 10% extra cashback on their friends’ purchases through referral programs.
