"Unraveling the Mystery: How AI Went from Revolutionary to Unpredictable in Just a Few Years"

As we dive deeper into 2023, many of us are left pondering: has generative AI peaked? Remember the electrifying days of 2022 when we first stumbled upon mind-blowing text-to-image tools like Midjourney and DALL-E? I can almost hear the collective gasps of awe as we scrolled through surreal landscapes and uncanny creations, perhaps even causing a glacier or two to tremble along the way. Those early explorations were like stepping into a new dimension of creativity. As an artist, I reveled in perfecting my prompts to coax out images that danced right on the edge of brilliance and bizarre—like a stylish ’80s airbrush poster that took a wrong turn somewhere. This invigorating journey led me to collaborate with fellow creators, blending the hard edges of reality with the soft flares of AI-generated art. Yet, with the dawn of ChatGPT, a new chapter unfolded, one that left many creatives feeling both excited and wary. Did we just step into a world that could threaten our very livelihoods as writers, designers, and dreamers? The road ahead may be uncertain, but one thing’s for sure: the conversation around AI and creativity is more important now than ever. So, how do we ensure that technology enhances our artistry without overshadowing it? Let’s explore this evolving landscape and seize the opportunity to shape it together. LEARN MORE.

Does anyone else feel like generative AI has plateaued?  Remember 2022, when text-to-image generators like  Midjourney and DALL-E debuted? I think we all contributed to melting a glacier or two with our gleeful exploration of these  platforms. Once I mastered writing prompts that resulted in  images beyond the realm of “uncanny valley meets ’80s airbrush  poster art”—an aesthetic AI favors—I was enamored. My prompts became consistent enough that Denver-based artist  Jared David Paul asked me to collaborate to create prompts  describing sculptures he’d made. The final AI-generated visuals were printed and exhibited alongside the sculptures. They were  strange and imperfect, but there was an undeniably compelling relationship between the physical objects and the AI-produced  images.
